Denver Golf Club Denver Golf Club is home to a beautiful 12-hole par 3 and 4 golf course with views of Denver Windmill, set in mature landscaped grounds within a county wildlife site. We are open all year (except during extreme weather conditions and on Christmas Day). On weekdays the course is open from 8.30 am to dusk and at weekends from 8.30 am to 6.00 pm. Longer evening opening hours apply in the summer months. Our facilities are perfect for beginners and juniors who want to experience golf in friendly surroundings and find out more about the game of golf. We have a bunker and a practice green where you can develop your techniques before going on to the driving range or the course. We also cater for seniors and groups who want to enjoy golf in a relaxed and informal setting. The par 3 and 4 course is an ideal facility for you to practise and improve your short game. In fact, our course can be used to improve a wide variety of golfing techniques. We are proud of our 10-acre driving range which is perfect for you to develop sound techniques in your long game. Do not worry if you do not have any golf equipment - we hire clubs, bags and trolleys. Please click here for information on our green fees. |

Our catering side is continuing to develop very well and we now have lots of regulars for snacks and meals. In the summer months we will have more room to accommodate you - thanks to our extension! - and a wider range of delights with which to tempt you! We serve breakfasts from 8.30 am to 11.00 am; lunches from 12 noon to 2.00 pm; and dinners from 6.00 pm to 7.00 pm. A range of tea, coffee and soft drinks is always available. Don't forget our home-cooked Sunday Roasts - you do not need to book in advance, but it is helpful for us if you can. We have a licence to sell alcohol for consumption on the premises, so you can enjoy a drink with your meal. Remember - you don't need to play golf to eat or drink here. |
Future Plans
| Those who have visited us recently will have
seen that new facilities have been put in
place - and we have noted the approval you have shown us. There
is still
much to do and organise, but things are happening here at Denver! Watch this space! Jason is dedicated to making this Club a really friendly and social place for you to spend your leisure time - whether you play golf or not. If you've got any ideas about what you would like to see here, just have a word with Jason. He is usually here and he is always willing to listen to any ideas. Some people have been enquiring what is going to happen - and some are wondering how we're going to get it all done. Six new holes were started during 2007 and should be ready for play in Spring 2008. We are looking out for garden plants that you could donate to the Club, particularly those that will add colour. If you are having a clearout in the garden, please let us have any plants you don't want. We can collect them locally, and we will make good use of them to turn the course into an even more beautiful place. You may be making room in your garden by removing pots or trellis - again, we may be able to use those, so please let us know. So far, we have planted over ten thousand bulbs at Denver, so the course and all the facilities look wonderful in the Spring. |

Newsletter – September 2007
|
We reached our first anniversary on 16th August, so thank you for assisting in our journey forward.
The Course As you can see from the digger being in use most days, the new holes are well under way now, or at least the basis of them are now there. The new pond has filled itself up; the trouble is that it has to be emptied in order to put the sleepers in place to make the wall to keep it rigid and safe. Once the sleepers are in place you will start to see what a feature it will become. There will be lots of trenches for drainage, so no soggy patches in the winter – that’s the theory anyway! We have a date of late April/ May for playing. |
|
Our flowers have been good this year, not quite as we had hoped, due to either excess rain or a lack of rain and high winds. Hopefully, next year will be better when they become more established. We have had comments, however, that the course in general is looking very good. We hope you feel that same: there will be changes to the old course in line with the new course being constructed. We intend to change the second tee and the fairway while retaining the same green. This will eliminate the potential hazard of people on the second tee being within range of those teeing off on the first.
It will also open up the conservation area which we are hoping to have as a point of interest and show just why the conservation area is there. We have had the team from the Norfolk Wildlife Trust here for their consent to retain some and increase some of the area in line with their regulations. We should have an interesting area within a few years as the grasses grow to their former glory, obviously encouraging the wildlife in the process. If you have an interest in this, your assistance would be appreciated.
Charity Fund-Raising
![]() Presentation of £750.00 cheque for Macmillan Cancer Support Day 2007 © Denver Golf Club 2007 |
We had two very good charity days. Some of you will have been there and we thank you so very much for your input to us achieving the totals we did. The total raised for Macmillan Cancer Support was £ 750.00 plus £ 43.00 in the charity box. The Winifred Touhy Memorial Breast Cancer Day raised £ 870.00. We hope to make these an annual event but will space them out during next year as they were rather close to each other this year. If any of you have any useful comments on how we could achieve additional advertising or fund raising please let us know. Both charities do so much good work we really do want to support them as much as we can. Thank you to everybody who has supported them. |
Junior Golf
The Junior Section is becoming more popular and well attended. The courses organised by Karl ran through the summer holidays proved very successful. The children improved daily when they came on one of the four-day courses and the disciplines of golf were well received, thanks to Karl. Through the Academy run by Jason and the Young Masters Golf run by Karl we are encouraging better play and correct course etiquette for the benefit of all players. One of our young members is shaping up to be a really wonderful player – we hope he develops a lifelong enjoyment of golf and – who knows? – possibly a career.
During the Junior Open, one of our members, Ivor Livesey, acted as a marshal, together with parents of the children who entered and the day went off with no problem. The winner was Owen Mills. If there is anyone else who would be willing to marshal at these events please let Jason or Karl know. Thank you.
Senior Section
We now have a Committee for the benefit of all of the Seniors that play at the Club. Initially, it will help run the over 55's morning on Tuesday. It will organise senior competitions, make the week’s play more enjoyable, and encourage away matches between other local – or not so local – clubs.
Once we have our additional holes in play, our Club we be able to offer a wonderful venue for return matches. With the addition of the club house extension, which will also be in place next year – thanks to the local council – we look forward to you enjoying these organised days out.
In fact, trips abroad are also in the pipeline: these can be discussed with the members of the Committee. Their names and information are now on the Seniors’ Notice Board. All Seniors who play at the Club are included in these functions and are welcome to join in all the activities.
